For the first time in the history of humanity, the philosophy of Ananda Marga has emerged, providing comprehensive solutions to all aspects of life. Artha (wealth), Dharma (righteousness), Kama (desire), and Moksha (liberation) are known as the four fundamental goals of life (Purushartha Chatushtaya). These are said to exist as four basic propensities within the Muladhara Chakra. Earning wealth through righteous means, enjoying desires with discernment, and ultimately attaining liberation—these are, in general, the true goals of human life.
Modern understanding of Kama is highly distorted and is often considered inappropriate for discussion in polite society, whereas its meaning is much broader. Freud’s concept of sexuality has narrowed its scope and made its discussion appear objectionable, even though its domain is vast. Baba has clearly indicated its true significance in bio-psychology. I will discuss this separately sometime.
As I was saying, the philosophy of Ananda Marga is a complete philosophy of life, introduced to human society for the first time. A complete life philosophy must include six essential elements—philosophy of life, philosophy of history, socio-economic philosophy, scripture, Guru, and a system of spiritual practice (cult). No other philosophy so far has contained all six elements, and thus they gradually declined. Islam contains a maximum of five elements; one is missing, so in the future it too may decline. Since Ananda Marga includes all six essential elements, it will remain eternal in human society.
Let me share an interesting incident. Baba was traveling in Europe. On June 4, he arrived at Milan Airport in Italy. His group consisted of thirteen people. Acharya Dharmavedananda, an American monk traveling with Baba, wrote that when they arrived at Milan Airport, they went through immigration where all their passports were stamped and approved for entry into Italy.
Outside the airport, hundreds of Italian Margiis were eagerly waiting for Baba’s darshan, chanting slogans in his praise. After receiving their visas at immigration, they proceeded to customs for inspection when suddenly an officer came running and asked for their passports. Everyone handed over their passports. Without any questions, the officer stamped all of them “Cancelled.” Everyone was shocked.
They asked officials at all levels of the airport why this had been done, but no one gave any answer. They were then deported from Milan to Lyon Airport in France on another aircraft.
Meanwhile, in Italy, this incident caused great unrest among Margiis, and the entire city of Milan echoed with protests. A serious law-and-order situation arose for the Italian government.
Baba, along with everyone, reached his ashram in Lyon. He remained completely calm, as if everything had happened exactly as he had intended. Later it was learned that, at the request of the Vatican, the Italian government had cancelled their visas.
Baba then sat with all the disciples in a relaxed manner and asked, “Tell me, why did this happen?” No one could answer. Then Baba himself said that they had become afraid of them.
Without naming any particular religion, Baba said:
They fear us because we are, on some aspects, better than them:
Better than the Hindus in philosophy,
Better than the Christians in social service,
Better than the Jews in orthodoxy,
Better than the Buddhists in morality,
Better than the Muslims in social equality,
Better than the Jains in asceticism, and
Better than the Communists in mobility.That’s why they fear us.

मानवता के इतिहास में पहली बार आनंद मार्ग का धर्म-दर्शन आया है, जिसने जीवन के सभी पहलुओं पर सम्यक समाधान दिया है। अर्थ, धर्म, काम, मोक्ष — इनको पुरुषार्थ चतुष्टय कहा गया है। मूलाधार चक्र में चार मूल वृतियों के रूप में इसकी स्थिति कही गयी है। धर्मपूर्वक अर्थ का उपार्जन करते हुए, विवेक के साथ काम का सेवन और अंतिम लक्ष्य मोक्ष की प्राप्ति — सामान्य रूप में मनुष्य जीवन के यही लक्ष्य हैं।
काम के संबंध में आधुनिक धारणा बड़ी विकृत है और शिष्ट समाज में चर्चा योग्य नहीं मानी जाती है, जबकि इसके अर्थ बड़े व्यापक हैं। फ्रायड की सेक्स संबंधी अवधारणा ने इसे संकुचित कर दिया है और शिष्ट समाज में इसकी चर्चा को निंदनीय बना दिया है, जबकि इसका क्षेत्र बड़ा व्यापक है। बाबा ने जैव मनोविज्ञान में इसके स्पष्ट संकेत दिए हैं। इस पर स्वतंत्र रूप से कभी चर्चा करूंगा।
हाँ, तो कह रहा था कि आनंद मार्ग का धर्म-दर्शन सम्पूर्ण जीवन दर्शन है, जो मानव समाज में पहली बार आया है। एक सम्पूर्ण जीवन दर्शन में छह तत्व अनिवार्य हैं — जीवन दर्शन, इतिहास दर्शन, सामाजिक-आर्थिक दर्शन, शास्त्र, गुरु और साधना पद्धति (कल्ट)। आज तक किसी भी जीवन दर्शन में ये छह तत्व नहीं पाए गए, इसलिए वे विलीन होते गए। इस्लाम में सबसे अधिक पाँच तत्व हैं; एक तत्व का अभाव है, इसलिए भविष्य में यह भी विलीन हो जाएगा। आनंद मार्ग जीवन दर्शन में छहों अनिवार्य तत्व हैं, इसलिए यह मानव समाज में चिरस्थायी होगा।
एक रोचक घटना सुनाता हूँ। बाबा तब यूरोप की यात्रा पर थे। 4 जून को बाबा इटली के मिलानो एयरपोर्ट पर उतरे। बाबा के दल में तेरह लोग थे। अमेरिकी मूल के सन्यासी आचार्य धर्मवेदानंद, जो बाबा के दल में थे, ने लिखा है कि जब हम लोग बाबा के साथ इटली के मिलानो एयरपोर्ट पर उतरे, तो हम लोग इमीग्रेशन में गए, जहाँ सभी लोगों के पासपोर्ट पर इटली में प्रवेश की मंजूरी दे दी गई।
एयरपोर्ट के बाहर सैकड़ों इटालियन मार्गी बाबा के दर्शन का बेसब्री से इंतजार कर रहे थे और जयघोष के नारे लगा रहे थे। इमीग्रेशन से वीज़ा मिलने के बाद ये लोग कस्टम में जांच के लिए पहुंचे ही थे कि एक अधिकारी दौड़ते हुए आया और इन लोगों से पासपोर्ट मांगा। सबने पासपोर्ट दे दिया। फिर उस अधिकारी ने बिना सवाल-जवाब किए सभी के पासपोर्ट पर “Cancelled” का ठप्पा लगा दिया। सभी को घोर आश्चर्य हुआ।
एयरपोर्ट के नीचे से ऊपर तक के अधिकारियों से इन लोगों ने पूछा कि ऐसा क्यों किया गया, लेकिन किसी ने कोई जवाब नहीं दिया। इन लोगों को एक दूसरे एयरक्राफ्ट से मिलानो से फ्रांस के लियोन एयरपोर्ट पर डिपोर्ट कर दिया गया।
उधर इटली में इस घटना से मार्गियों में भयंकर असंतोष पैदा हुआ और विरोध में पूरा मिलानो शहर गूंज उठा। इटली सरकार के लिए भीषण कानून-व्यवस्था की स्थिति पैदा हो गई।
बाबा लियोन में सबके साथ अपने आश्रम आए। बाबा बिल्कुल सहज थे, जैसे वे जैसा चाहते थे वैसा ही हुआ हो। बाद में पता चला कि वैटिकन के अनुरोध पर इटली सरकार ने इन लोगों का वीज़ा रद्द किया।
बाबा सभी साधकों के साथ सहज रूप में बैठे थे। फिर बाबा ने सभी से पूछा — “बताओ, ऐसा क्यों हुआ?” कोई इस सवाल का जवाब नहीं दे पाया। तब बाबा ने स्वयं कहा कि वे लोग हम लोगों से भयभीत हो गए।
बाबा ने किसी विशेष धर्ममत का नाम लिए बिना कहा—
They fear us because we are, on some aspects, better than them:
Better than the Hindus in philosophy,
Better than the Christians in social service,
Better than the Jews in orthodoxy,
Better than the Buddhists in morality,
Better than the Muslims in social equality,
Better than the Jains in asceticism, and
Better than the Communists in mobility.That’s why they fear us.
