THE MIDDLE-EAST WAR AFFECTS THE WORLD’S ECONOMY

Editorial

War, in no way, is a blessing to humanity. A war is fought between two or more nations but it affects the whole world. The Israel – US and Iran War has reached a phase which has caused a severe crisis due to lack of supplies in Crude Oil and Natural Gases following the locking of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran. Secondly, this war has taken serious concerns about the Oil establishments of the Arab nations. Iran is bombarding the oil refineries of its neighbouring oil producing countries and the Iranian oil refineries are being dismantled by Israel. The animosity and retaliation between the warring countries has set forth a great challenge for the other nations of the world which are mostly dependent on the middle-east for their Crude oil and natural gas supplies.

The war is escalating and there is no intent of compromise from either side. Moreover, the US and Israel have planned to wage more severe and deadly attacks on Iran as Iran has refused to submit to any of the proposals of compromise to end war given by the US. The US has already landed its ground forces on the soil of Iran. Iran, on its speculation of severe attacks by the Israel-US, has prepared itself to fight militarily too and once the fight on the ground starts it will take months together to come to a resolution until the regime is changed in Iran. There is no concrete speculation of ending the war but one thing which is going to happen is that it is going to severely affect the economies across the world.

Bangladesh is the first country which is running short of its oil reserves. India is managing the oil price hike with its available reserves till the election of 5 states on 10th April, after that the prices are assumed to be hiked. The international prices of crude oil have already hiked more than $100 a barrel. Iran is bent upon creating a crisis to raise it up to $200 by blocking the Strait of Hormuz while the war is escalating.
With the unprecedented hike in the prices of crude oil and natural gases, the prices of essential commodities of daily use will increase which will affect the purse of common mass that may result in domestic unrest and violence with unprecedented consequences. It may lead to change the leadership of the governments. It will affect the GDP of the nations. The crude oil and natural gases have no substitute for the countries which have no subterranean reserves. They are dependent on the oil producing countries unless the substitute of renewable energy is produced in sufficient amounts. It’s a great challenge before the nations of the world. The intelligentsia of the world has to think about it to find out the alternative sources of fossil fuel as the reserves are limited too. But due to war the deadline of these natural reserves may be shortened by bombing and dismantling of oil refineries and creating a strategic crisis with the intent of retaliation.

PROUT suggests the innovative endeavours to work on alternative resources of energy. Because energy is one of the basic requirements to sustain life. It suggests that the means of essentialities of life must be guaranteed by the government ensuring “the right to live” to every citizen. Of course, the research work is going on, in this regard, all over the world but no technological innovations yet can claim to produce renewable energy at affordable cost as a substitute to fossil fuels to cater to the needs of its population. I wish that humanity must rise above the rudimental mindset of conservative ideologies of mutual clashes and embrace humanity as the sole concern of benevolence to secure the survival of all on this planet.
