TIME TO BRIDGE UP THE GAP OF INEQUALITY. – Editorial

The recent G20 Summit in South Africa which was witnessed by hundreds of representatives and experts from  the concerned sovereign countries ventilated the Global state of inequality in its reports. The World Inequality Report 2025 commissioned by the South African Presidency analyses various dimensions of inequality which marks that it has reached an alarming stage with the richest 1%  capturing a disproportionate share of wealth, and that inequality fuels poverty, health crises, and economic instability. The World is marked by extreme wealth inequality, with the wealthiest 10% of the global population owning three quarters of all assets.

The Climate Inequality Report 2025  commissioned by the World Inequality Lab reveals that wealthy individuals’ investments contribute significantly to global emissions. That is the reason, the Climate Change is advancing faster than ever. The remaining Carbon budget for 1.5° C is nearly exhausted with disastrous consequences for ecosystems and human livelihoods.

This report shows that the Climate Crisis and Wealth Inequality are deeply interconnected. Wealthy individuals not only generate disproportionate emissions through their consumption and the capital they control, but also have the financial, corporate, and political power to determine the trajectory of energy systems. Climate policies will therefore have profound consequences on wealth and proper inequalities in the twenty-first century.

The World Inequality Lab has proposed two major policies to be imperatively implemented. First, there must be a global ba

n on new fossil fuel investments. And the second is, there must be levied a Tax on the High Carbon Content of Assets.

In all, the concerns of Wealth Inequality as well as Climate Inequality have been decried for decades together but the corporates and the capitalist countries never liked to pay heed to the collective consensus of policy making. This will be a great pity on them that the whole humanity is going to see the unusual happenings by Nature which may take a heavy toll of all existence on this earth. The situation is alarming and this is the prime time to address these issues in the greater interests of humanity on this earth as a whole.

Wall of Gratitude and Contributors

Navacetana incurred immediate expenses of approximately ₹10,000 towards the printing of the January 2026 issue and postal charges for sending greeting cards to eminent scientists, agriculturists, and journalists as part of its New Year outreach initiative. In addition, Navacetana also bore the costs related to the collection of greeting cards from AMPS schools and the printing of posters featuring the inspirational messages received from these distinguished personalities for our students.

To encourage wider participation and to provide readers with an opportunity to support this meaningful initiative, a nominal contribution of ₹150 was suggested. The response from members and well-wishers was heartening. Contributions were received in denominations of ₹150, ₹200, ₹300, and ₹500, reflecting collective goodwill rather than individual capacity.

In total, 48 members came forward to support the initiative, and Navacetana received a sum of ₹10,600.

Navacetana expresses its sincere gratitude to all contributors whose support has helped strengthen the bond between students and eminent personalities, and has enabled the successful continuation of this inspiring educational and outreach programme.
