“The Supreme Consciousness is inside you like butter and milk; Churn your mind through Meditation and He will appear-You will see that the resplendence of the Supreme Consciousness illumines your whole inner being. He is like the subterranean river in you. Remove the sands of mind and you will find the clear, cool waters within.”
– Shrii Shrii Anandamurti
Simply speaking, meditation is the process of focusing the mind to achieve mental and emotional calmness and tranquility, but in actuality the meaning of meditation is much deeper. The world is caught up in the endless maze of lower planes of the mind. The mind is made up of several layers or koshas namely the lowermost layer or the physical body along with its sense organs, nerve fibers and nerve cells is called the The Kaammaya kosha, The second is Manomaya Kosha or the conscious layer, The third the Subconscious layer, or the Atimanas Kosha , The fourth is Vigyanmaya Kosha and the fifth is Hiranyamaya kosha. The lower layers of the mind is always in pursuit of material happiness to delight the senses. But instead of getting satisfaction they plunge themselves more into the dark alley of suffering and disappointments. Meditation helps us to Pearce the higher realms of the layers of mind and attain the Blissful state.
Meditation is that subtle science of yoga which has its application universally on every human being who has a developed mind or consciousness and evolves it to the highest level to attain infinite joy and happiness. Man is trifarious in nature, comprising of a body mind and soul. As the body requires food for its growth so does the mind. Meditation serves as the mental pabulum or food for the mind as it cleanses the several layers of the mind which it is made of, thereby transforming it to a clear and a perfect mirror to reflect the radiance of the true self “Who Am I”
Meditation has fairly antient roots and has been practiced for thousands of years across various cultures. Mentions are found in various Vedas. Lord Shiva, about five thousand five hundred years back brought Tantra sadhana on this earth and popularized it in the masses as has been mentioned by Shri P. R Sarkar also known as Shri Shri Anandmuti Jee, who was one of the greatest philosopher and a visionary of the century.
The meaning of Tantra as given by Shri Shri Anandamurti is as follows “Tan” is a root verb, a Sanskrit root verb, it means “to expand”. “Tra” means liberator. Therefore, Tantra means the science that helps you in all round expansion. Tantra is the way to expand. Parvati- Shiva’s wife once asked Shiva “What is the qualification of becoming a spiritual aspirant?” Lord Shiva’s reply was that the minimum qualification is that he should have a human body. Thus it establishes that any human being with a physical body irrespective of caste color creed race or any religion is qualified to do meditation and expand his mind to attain liberation.

For humanity to progress, the evolvement of the mind is very essential and this can only be attained by meditation. As human beings are the highest evolved beings. The nature of their consciousness is to seek and meditation enables the human beings to seek for the infinite or realize the Cosmic Entity. Thus we see meditation helps in the Physical Mental as well as Spiritual upliftment of human beings.
It is a commonly accepted fact that we human beings are utilizing only a fraction of our mental potential. As one scientist had said probably “99%” of our human ability is totally wasted. It has taken 10 million years to equip us with this incredible mind with seemingly unlimited capacity, but sadly we are using only a minute part of it. Through meditation, we can develop and expand our mind to its maximum capacity. The Dharma of every Human Being is to seek for that ultimate truth or happiness which is inherent in them, History is testimony to the fact that as and when the mankind has deviated from their “Dharma” the society has succumbed to total anarchy leading to suffering and pain,. Giving way to various ideologies as communism and capitalism to act as astringent or a healer to satisfy their qualms but it was all futile. People are searching for infinite and real happiness which can be provided by Meditation alone.
The United Nation Organization has declared 21st December as World Meditation Day.
The world has evolved. The “Human centric” thought since centuries now is replaced by “Neo-Humanist’ Idea which explains the interconnectedness of all humans. I am of firm belief that very soon human society will be able to form a stable human society which will move together in harmony towards their common goal. This can only be accomplished when we all will recognize the POWER OF MEDITATION.
