Girls Proutist Foundation Day, the historic 4th August 1978, is significant because it marks the anniversary of the founding of Girls Proutist—the women’s wing of the Proutist movement, which is inspired by the socio-economic philosophy of PROUT (Progressive Utilization Theory) given by Shrii Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar.
While writing this article I stopped and started thinking, that 4th August in 1978 was a third day after Baba’s release from Jail and after Baba’s breaking of long fasting, he became so weak, surrounded by all eminent workers and his family members too, what made him to form Girls Proutist instantly. Baba’s decision can’t be instant; he must have decided about formation of GP during his tenure in jail. Though Baba did not disclose when he did the planning for us, I can recall that at a very young age during summer vacations, Baba’s mother used to go to her mother’s house along with children. And at that time Baba made the outline of Prout philosophy. Similarly, Baba had us in his master plan from day 1st, and executed it on 4th August. Baba strongly emphasized that women must not be confined to a secondary role in society; they should be equally trained, organized, and given leadership positions in social, economic, and cultural spheres. He did not see Girls Proutist as a local or national entity but as part of a global movement for social transformation, where women from different cultures could unite under a common ideology.
The day is celebrated to remember the vision and purpose for which the Girls Proutist wing was formed: to organize, educate, and mobilize women for social and economic change. It’s a celebration of women empowerment, global sisterhood.
In short, it’s not just an anniversary—it’s a reaffirmation of commitment to gender equality, moral leadership, and collective welfare.
This year the GP foundation day programme was organised at 6 places across India. lets look at event.
